eBay Listing is for a Vintage Solido The Famous Battles GMC Truck w/Accessories, #6109, Die-cast Metal, Scale 1:50, Mint Condition, NIB. GMC 1 1/2-ton, 6 x 6 cargo trucks were delivered during 1941-1945. Solido GMC chassis is made of die-cast metal. Solido GMC Truck is painted desert tan in color. This GMC Truck model has an open cargo bay containing plastic jerrycans with its canvas rolled up at top of truck bed. Jerry can cargo insert can pops out. GMC Truck is 5” Long x 1 3/4” Wide x 2” High. A real jerrycan or jerrican is a robust liquid container made from pressed steel. It was designed in Germany in 1930s for military use to hold 20 liters of fuel, and saw widespread use by both Germany and Allies during World War II. Sometimes jerrycans were filled with water and kept separate from fuel jerrycans. There is nothing broken, chipped, cracked, or missing from armored personnel carrier. GMC Truck carrier is sold “as is.” GMC Truck is in Mint Condition looks great. Original box shows minor storage wear and hanger hole at top of box has small tear. Made in France. GMC, also known as “Jimmy,” was a highly successful series of off-road capable, 1 1/2-ton, 6 x 6 trucks, built in large numbers to a standardized design (from 1941 to 1945) for U.S. Army that saw heavy service, predominantly as cargo trucks, in both World War II and Korean War. Original “Deuce and a Half” formed backbone of famed Red Ball Express that kept Allied armies supplied as they pushed eastward after Normandy invasion. GMC came in many variants, including open or closed cab, open or closed cargo bay. and over a score of specialized models, but bulk were standard, general purpose, cargo models. A large minority were built with a front mounted winch, and one in four of cabs had a machine-gun mounting ring above co-driver’s position. 572,500 GMCs including all variants were built.
