“Foreign Legion Paratroopers” with Modern War Magaine #46 Mar-Apr 2020 New, unpunched and completely un-played solitaire game & magazine. [from the Boardgame Geek website]”Foreign Legion Paratroopers” is a solitaire wargame. The player controls the French forces. The game system controls various Opposition Forces (OPFOR). The game is played in missions (or scenarios). You can link the various missions into a larger campaign game. It is recommended that you first play a couple of games before playing a campaign game. While is designed as a solitaire wargame (and requires only one player to play), “Foreign Legion Paratroopers” can also be played by two or more players, each controlling different parts of the REP. Each turn equals anywhere from 12 hours to one week. Hexes on the Mission Map are anywhere from 0.5 to 5 kilometers across. A platoon is 30-60 soldiers. OPFOR units represent anywhere from 10 to 1000 fighters. Components: One 22″ x 34″ map on one sheet & 176 counters [Reviews from the Boardgame Geek]———–I’ve only done single mission so far but this game is a blast. Similar system to Crete 1941 and Objective Havana. This game is well on its way to earning my coveted 3 F rating (fast, fun, furious)———–A game designed for solitaire play where you lead a your customized team of French Foreign Legion Paratroopers on a series of randomly generated missions at various types of “hot spots” around the globe. Depending on the mission and the location you must equip your (limited) force and accomplish your mission. The game has solid rules that are simple enough to be learned and played in one comfortable sitting and yet the game still portrays some the key aspects of modern “peace keeping” operations well in an extremely compact package. A hidden gem of a game presented in magazine format with good components and solid rules where the random nature/design of the missions provides a ton of replay value. A solid “10” in consideration of the cost, insane replay and rare subject matter.———–My favorite solo board game so far. I like it so much that I bought a second copy of the game. That way, in 30 years if my first copy is too damaged I will have my second copy to go to lol. It really feels like a 4x game with the money management (exploitation of operation points), exploration of unknown markers, expand into strategic location/victory points zone (critical buildings) and the extermination of a maximum of enemy units for more victory points. I like that you can send whatever units you want to the battlefield. You are not limited to the units that the scenario gives like in most other games. Unlimited replay value, I recommend it!———–Excellent game, maybe the best magazine game I’ve played (granted I haven’t played all that many.) This one merits a box game. I don’t agree with the critics that say its too random (except maybe the NetWar rolls). Highly recommend – great under gamed topic and strong narrative. Easily worth the cost of a magazine game.———–This game has likely been played more than any other I own in the past couple of years.———–What a great game! It has some Jagged Alliance flavour – not in terms of game mechanics, but in terms of gaming atmosphere. Rules are the weakest point of the game and are vague a bit here and there, but a mature wargamer would deal with it no time.
