Rare and Unusual Antique Pincushion Celluloid Baby’s Head with Stuffed Dress For Your Antique Sewing Collection – PinCushionBaby1 Details Description: Antique pincushion formed from a plastic (possibly celluloid) figural head of a baby and a stuffed dress, which serves as the pincushion. The figural pincushion has a red ribbon around the neck with a light blue bow. The dress is also a light blue colored dress, while the bottom of the piece appears to be paper. The head is made of a cast light plastic, which we believe could be celluloid. The cast head has details of the baby’s facial features as well as his hair. The Eye brows are blond colored while the eyes are black on blue and the mouth is red. A very nice and unusual piece. The head is covered with a bonnet which has a golden material filling. Date: Late 1800s or Early 1900s Origin: Purchase from the estate of an elderly couple in Philadelphia Pennsylvania Size: 2 7/8″ high and is ~2 1/8″ in diameter at the base. Maker: Unknown Marks: Unmarked Distinguishing Characteristics – Most Interesting About The Piece: A truly old very unusual and nice sewing implement. Condition: Good condition with no breaks, or repairs. The dress is dirty but intact, the ribbons appear to be all there but the red one is untied. The bonnet has losses and shows the stuffing below it, but is still together. The paper base has tears and a spot which is folded. None of these condition issues distract from the beauty, quality and rarity of this piece.
