A truly one of a kind set of hand crafted blocks made from 34 both soft & hardwood species of the United States. These blocks are 1.5” thick, 2.75” wide and come in lengths of 22”, 11”, 5.5”, & 2.75”. This 34 piece set required 12 bdft. of lumber to make. Each block has been sanded, its corners rounded and coated with a nontoxic varnish. The species of wood each block is made from is stamped into the block using a two or three letter code. Back in the 1980’s I made a pine block set for my 10 year old nephew. These blocks burned up in the Oakland fire of 1991. About 20 years ago my sister asked if I would consider reproducing that block set for my nephew’s child. That was a lot of work, so in an attempt to derail the project I suggested that the new set be made from different species of wood grown in the United States. After a few months my sister got back to me and agreed to fund the project. She purchased wood on eBay and I turned it into blocks. This project soon got out of hand. Thousands of dollars and over 100 species later the project came to an end. The right size pieces were hard to come by so I often ended with more blocks of a species than we needed. It is these blocks that I am selling and I have hundreds of them.
